This two-week summer school will present an overview of a selection of topics in the crossroads between geometry, algebra, and combinatorics. It will consist of four one-week mini-courses given by leading experts, complemented with supervised exercise sessions, lectures by invited researchers, and research presentations by junior participants. The school is aimed at young researchers in geometric and algebraic combinatorics and related fields, although any interested researcher is welcome to participate. We expect the school to be an opportunity to bring together researchers from different backgrounds and foster new interactions. This school is part of the ongoing ANR project CAPPS.

The winter school on Theoretical Foundations of Computer Science will be held in Tbilisi, Georgia, February 4-9, 2019. The school will be organized by the International Black Sea University with the support of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia (SRNSFG). The intended audience of the winter school includes master and PhD students as well as young researchers from the fields of computer science and mathematics.

Blockchain technology promises to revolutionize how modern society deals with trust. Although cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin dominate the media, the long-term impact of blockchain technology on society will extend far beyond today’s news cycles, transforming areas ranging from identity management, to non-currency financial instruments, supply chains and logistics, IOT security, and more.

The IIAS Winter School on Blockchains and cryptocurrencies brings together leading researchers in the field to cover the mathematical and algorithmic foundations of the field, as well as more practical engineering issues, with the goal of understanding both the opportunities and the hazards emerging from this area.

We will start by two days of Software Carpentry training, covering the Unix shell, version control with Git, and programming with Python, delivered by Software Carpentry instructors. The GAP mini-course on Wednesday will be led by Alexander Konovalov. The remaining two days will be dedicated to other math-oriented research tools, such as SageMath and CoCalc (Samuel Lelièvre), LaTeX topics for the working mathematician (Nino Bašić) and contributed talks.
